Icom UK Ltd

Established in 1974 as Thanet Electronics, Icom started as a retailer and trade distributor to the amateur radio market. As the company grew, they launched a handportable for the UK amateur radio market which proved so successful that marine and commercial variants soon found their way to these shores.

During the Falklands conflict, the company received a large order from the UK Ministry of Defence. It was all hands on deck for the small team, who modified and inspected each radio to meet the strict MoD specifications. The quality of Icom’s radios, combined with the ability to tailor each product to the users needs, created a formula for success.

Icom, based in Herne Bay, now employs 30 staff and has an established dealer network, with more than 1,000 accounts both in the UK and overseas.
