From 7 January 2015, schools (including academies and free schools) were able to submit an online application to be recognised as a leader in character education through the 2015 DfE Character Awards.

The application window closes on 30 January with the winners announced at the end of February/beginning of March 2015. An awards ceremony will then be held in March 2015.

Applications from all 9 regions (North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England, London, South East, South West) will be reviewed and judged by experts in the field.

A regional award of £15,000 will be issued to up to 3 winners within each region (up to 27 schools!). From amongst these regional winners, 1 national prize winner will be chosen and awarded an additional prize of £20,000. Therefore the overall winner will be awarded £35,000.

This is great opportunity for schools to secure some additional funding. Further details regarding the awards, including the judging criteria and a link to the application form, can be found here.
