We are proud to announce that a group from Kreston Reeves completed the 2017 Brighton Marathon on Sunday 9 April in what were unseasonably hot conditions. The team has so far raised just under £5,000 for local charities.
Our runners included Tim Maakestad, Ruth Tomkin Munro, Terry Burgum and Jake Standing, who supported Chesnut Tree House (the Gatwick office’s chosen charity), and Steve Moss who ran in aid of St Luke’s Trust (the London office’s chosen charity), in addition to Mind and Cystic Fibrosis Trust. We are also incredibly proud of Sean Rodwell from the firm who completed the race and raised funds by holding a sweepstake for staff at the our Chatham office to guess their combined finishing time.
The team joined over 12,000 people from across a variety of backgrounds, from fun runners to elite athletes, as they laced up their trainers to take part in the eighth Brighton Marathon, on what was the hottest day of the year so far!
The route led runners around the city’s best known sights, including the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Dome, the i360 tower, the North Laine, Peace Statue, Brighton Palace Pier, Kemp Town, and Hove Lawns, over a demanding 26.2 miles.
See our team’s race times below:
Team member | Time (hours) |

Tim Maakestad | 4.32 |
Ruth Tomkin Munro | 5.01 |
Steve Moss | 4.06 |
Sean Rodwell | 4.15 |
Jake Standing | 4.16 |
This is a great achievement for our team, some of whom had never run a marathon before. The group all committed to the necessary hours to prepare themselves for this charity challenge – running on average three times per week as part of an uncompromising 12 week training regime.
Steve Moss, who made his marathon debut commented, “Seeing and hearing the sheer number of people who came out to support the runners created such an electric atmosphere! My favourite two signs on the course were ‘Pain is French for bread’ and ‘If Donald Trump can run, so can you’ – every little helped to get me to the finish line!”.
Jake Standing added, “A big thanks and congratulations to everyone! I had to dig deep to get through the miles and certainly got the sunburn to prove it was a hot one…but it was worth it and what a great sum of money raised for the charities”.
Tim Maakestad, Partner at Kreston Reeves and marathon runner, commented, “I’m very proud of the whole team in completing the marathon and raising such a fantastic amount for our chosen charities. This was an extreme challenge – the temperature on the day reached an uncomfortable 20C which put pressure on a great deal of runners just to finish – it was a mixture of exhaustion and elation to cross that line!
But we shouldn’t lose sight of the main reason for running. The combined total on both JustGiving sites is now just under £5,000 and I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us.
The generosity from clients and staff together with the commitment of the runners is wonderful to see and will help towards those charities continuing to provide their much needed support.”
For anyone who would still like to contribute please use our JustGiving page to support the Chestnut Tree House charity, or to support St Luke’s Trust please use Steve’s JustGiving page.
Chesnut Tree House is a Sussex based children’s charity providing hospice care services and community support for children and young people with progressive life-shortening conditions. St Luke’s Trust works to improve the lives of those living in and around the area of the former parish of St Luke’s in London.
