“Every day is different and that’s what I love” says Chantelle Walsh about her typical working day at Kreston Reeves.

Chantelle is a solicitor based in the Horsham office, who joined the firm in 2022 after working with a couple of regional solicitors over the previous several years.

“I studied law at A Level and really enjoyed it and decided to go to University to study it. My route to becoming a solicitor after graduating was to then work full time at a local law firm while I studied, so I spent five years working and qualified as a Legal Executive in 2018 before qualifying as a solicitor in 2021. Both firms I worked with were then acquired by much larger firms, and I decided to look for a new role. When a former colleague heard I was looking for a new role they mentioned Kreston Reeves and I’m so glad I met the team and was offered the role.”

“I really enjoy the variety of the work from preparing Wills, Powers of Attorney, Trusts and Estate administration and Probate. I absolutely love Probate work and if I hadn’t become a solicitor, I would have become a maths teacher. There is nothing more satisfying than doing all the calculations and balancing estate accounts for clients. You also really get to know the family and it feels like we are really helping them and relieving them of the burden whilst they can deal with the rest of their loved one’s estate.”

“Clients are currently reviewing whether the recent change in government might affect their plans for the future. A number have been asking whether there might be changes to Inheritance Tax. We hope to have more clarification on this in the upcoming Autumn Budget announcement on Wednesday 30 October. We can help clients to prepare now but would also recommend joining our Autumn Budget webinar on Friday 1 November, when our panel of experts will be on hand to answer your questions.

Chantelle also advises a number of blended families on their estate planning. “Some of our clients are very open and have spoken to the children from the different relationships to discuss arrangements, whilst others sadly don’t have the conversation. We try and encourage clients to talk about their plans so that it doesn’t come as a surprise after they pass away, and many also write a letter to explain the decisions they make in their Will.”

When Chantelle isn’t working, she has a one year old daughter who keeps her busy. “We are lucky as we have a great family network to support us and it’s great to be back at work after my maternity leave. Before my daughter came along, I used to spend quite a bit of time keeping fit and attending classes like Zumba and I still try and get to one or two each week. I also love reading and honestly, I will read anything, I don’t mind the genre, I just love a good book.”
