We raised over £1,700 for My Shining Star at the Medway Sunlight Rotary Club’s Annual Dragon Boat Challenge!

A team of 16 from Kreston Reeves took part in the Medway Sunlight Rotary Club’s Annual Dragon Boat Challenge on Sunday 28 May to raise over £1,700 for their Chatham office nominated charity, My Shining Star.

Our team, ‘The Oar-ditors’, were one of many that paddled their forty foot long, elaborately decorated, Chinese war canoes up the 250 Metres of Basin No 2 in Chatham Maritime on the Bank holiday weekend. The teams that compete seek sponsorship for their efforts in aid of charities, and we donated to our local Chatham office nominated charity, My Shining Star.

My Shining Star is a children’s cancer charity that offer advice and practical support for families affected by cancer. There are three priority areas that they focus on: financial hardship, sibling support and bereaved families. Rather than acting as a ‘wish’ charity, they seek to provide practical help and assistance, like helping towards food costs, offering therapy with a trained Trauma Counsellor, hospital travel expenses and they can also provide their support through many other avenues.

Sean Rodwell, Senior Audit Manager, commented on the day stating: ‘The Annual Dragon Boat Race is always a great activity to take part in! There are always so many supporters cheering us on along the way and although we may not have won, we managed to raise a huge amount of money for our office chosen charity, which will hopefully help the families that are most in need of extra support’.
