The winners of the Sussex Heritage Awards 2024 were announced on Wednesday 10 July at Lancing College, and we were delighted to sponsor The Eco Award which was won by New Dwelling at Shards in Cuckfield.
Submitted by Morgan Carn Architects, the new building design reflected the original quarry site. The Judges commented ‘all aspects of sustainability had been considered and the result is a really impressive piece of architecture’. It also won a Small-Scale Residential Award.
Knepp Wilding Kitchen and Shop and New Dwelling at Weald House, Keymer were highly commended.
The Awards which have run for 26 years celebrate the highest quality new buildings, conversion and rejuvenation projects across Sussex, whilst encouraging the use of traditional skills and crafts. Award categories range from small scale residential, public and community buildings to building crafts.
This year there were 94 entries and the judges have awarded 37 award plaques and 31 highly commended certificates.
Full details of the awards evening and the other winners can be found here.
Daniel Grainge, Head of Tax at Kreston Reeves said “We were delighted to become a sponsor of these prestigious awards this year, sponsoring The Eco Award which is in its second year. This category recognises a project’s commitment to excellence in sustainability, biodiversity and energy efficiency. Our commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) is central to our purpose and vision as a firm. As a BCorp we recognise the important role we have as a business and our wider responsibility to the community in which we work. “
Helen Reeve, Sussex Heritage Trust said “The Sussex Heritage Awards continue to standout as the most important architectural and landscape Awards in Sussex. Last year we launched the inaugural Eco Award category to celebrate excellence in sustainability, biodiversity and energy efficiency. With our grateful thanks to Kreston Reeves, who joined the Ernst Kleinwort Trust, as joint sponsors of The Eco Award this year.”
