Further information

VAT touches almost every transaction a business makes, and the rules are detailed, technical and often counter-intuitive. A small misunderstanding can lead to an unexpected liability, a penalty, or VAT left unclaimed when it could have been recovered. My job is to help clients get it right, with clear and practical advice they can act on with confidence.

I joined the VAT team at Kreston Reeves in September 2021 and am based in our London office. Since then, I’ve supported a wide range of businesses and organisations on everything from day-to-day compliance and registration questions to more complex matters such as property transactions, cross-border trade and partial exemption. My work is varied and regularly involves colleagues and clients from across our London, Kent and Sussex offices, so the people I advise get the benefit of a whole specialist VAT team’s experience, not just one person’s view.

My route into tax was a little different. I graduated from the University of Exeter with a Master’s degree in Physics before realising that a career in accountancy and tax was a far better fit for me than one in the sciences. That background still shapes how I work. Physics taught me to break a complex problem into its component parts, test every assumption and follow the logic through to a clear conclusion. VAT rewards exactly that approach, because the right answer usually depends on the precise facts of a transaction and how the legislation applies to them. This has been further supported by gaining my ATT qualification and I am looking to gain my CTA qualification as well.

I also believe advice is only valuable if it’s easy to understand and easy to access. I aim to be approachable and responsive, and I’m always happy to pick up the phone and talk something through, whether a client is planning a new venture, reviewing their current VAT position or dealing with an enquiry from HMRC. I want clients to come away understanding their position, not simply being told what to do.

Personal information

In my spare time I am a big football fan and spend time following my beloved team Watford (no matter how painful at times), traveling, cooking and food as well as spending time with my friends and family. I’m also a big petrol head and can usually be found working on my 1989 MK2 Golf GTi or looking for other projects to get back on the road and hope to eventually take this on road trips to Scotland and Germany.
