Since our last alumni newsletter, we have continued to be active as a firm with our ESG programme focussing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of: Health and wellbeing, Quality education, Reduced inequalities and Climate action.
We released our impact report for 2023 which you can read here. It is amazing when you pull it all together in one place how much we are able to achieve by working together in just a year!
The highlight for me over the last few weeks has been another walking challenge. This year, a team of 9 colleagues completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. We had particularly difficult weather with 40 mph winds and hail on the top of the last summit, but we still managed to finish the walk and raised nearly £4,000 for our office charities as a result.
Some other notable initiatives over the last few months which we thought you might like to hear about:
Our annual Student of the year awards were established in 2019 in loving memory of our colleague Janet Fautley, a leading light for us in continuous learning and excellence. We’re very proud of all our students and the dedication they show to their work, their studies and their extracurricular activities both inside and out of work. So, these awards are our way of recognising their contribution and giving them the kudos they deserve!
I’m delighted to announce that this year’s winner was Daisy Hart with runners up Nathan Brearley and Eden Reynolds, so an enormous congratulations to them.
To celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) this year, we hosted a networking breakfast bringing together a number of women in leading roles from businesses and business sectors, often traditionally dominated by men. They discussed this year’s theme ‘Inspiring Inclusion’, and shared experiences and anecdotes, what has inspired them on their career journey, and what more can be done by them and others to inspire colleagues in the workplace and beyond.
Inspired by On Your Feet Britain, the KR Community encouraged KR staff and their families to get involved with local park runs on Saturday 27 or Sunday 28 April.
This year we have continued to support LoveLocalJobs Foundation’s Dare to Dream Programme by supporting the students at St Phillip Howard Catholic School in West Sussex. This programme helps to provide young people with experiences and tools that will help them fulfil their potential.
Dare to Dream focuses on the core themes of self-awareness, mindset, gratitude, resilience, teamwork and employability. Our people attend in school mentoring sessions and participate in the student office visits. During these sessions the volunteers mentor up to three students each, sharing their own journeys and workplace insights, listening to and helping to build the student’s confidence.
I expect the summer months will bring many more community-based activities which our team can get involved with from attending school employability events to volunteering at local charities. We hope that by lots of small actions we can really make a difference.
