Lydia Penn joined Kreston Reeves as an apprentice in September 2022 and is an Audit Assistant in the Horsham office.
She graduated in the summer of 2022 after completing a degree in Accounting and Management. Unlike many other apprentices, Lydia has previously worked as a restaurant manager before deciding to go to university and embark on a new career, which would provide a better work/life balance for her young family.
What aspects of the job do you find most enjoyable?
“The best part about the job is the training and the people I work with. I feel like I learn so much, and I have several people who support me on a daily basis, who have also been on the same apprenticeship route.”
What is a typical day like for you?
“No one day is the same which is interesting. Each day I see which tasks have been assigned to me and I speak to the senior person in the team to get a briefing on what needs to be done. I might be on site with a client, in the office or taking part in training.”
Do you want to specialise in a certain area of accounting in the future?
“I want to keep my career options open at the moment so I haven’t yet decided what I would like to specialise in the future, but I have the next three years to learn as much as I can which is exciting.”

“After graduating I applied to a number of firms, but Kreston Reeves stood out as it is a large firm that offers a good work life balance which was a strong selling point to me, as I have two young children. It also has excellent internal and external training programmes in place.”
