Interim Carbon Reduction Plan

Publication date: 11 November 2021

Commitment to carbon neutrality

In 2020 we committed to being a carbon-neutral firm by offsetting our carbon emissions with accredited carbon credits and tree planting programmes. We are on track to achieve this by the end of 2021.

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Kreston Reeves LLP is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2019/20
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
The figures below represent Baseline Emissions for Kreston Reeves LLP for the financial year 1 June 2019 to 31 May 2020.  This was the first year of reporting.
Baseline year emissions:
EMISSIONS TOTAL (tCO2e)
Scope 1 41
Scope 2 157
Scope 3

Total Emissions 2,251

Current Emissions Reporting

Kreston Reeves is currently awaiting a report confirming the emissions for scopes 1, 2 and 3 for the year ended 31 May 2021. This plan will be updated with these measurements when available.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following initial carbon reduction target.

  • We aim for carbon emissions to decrease to 1125 tCO2e by 2050 based on our current structure. This is a reduction of 50%.

In recognition that we wish to set more detailed targets we intend to address our own operational impacts by setting science-based emissions reduction targets across all operational emissions (Scopes 1 and 2 and, where material, 3) in line with 1.5°C emissions pathways by 2026.

Progress against these targets will be reported in due course.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2019/20 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes is currently being measured against the 2019/20 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract.  The measured reduction referred to above will be available shortly and this plan will be updated with the figures for the year ended 31 May 2021 when these are available.

ACHIEVED FOR 2021:

Reduced paper consumption by 10% by encouraging the use of our paperless systems. In total our paper consumption reduced by 66% compared to the previous year.

ACHIEVED FOR 2021:

We have encouraged staff to travel less by encouraging the use of our Surface Hub systems and working from home.

ACHIEVED FOR 2021:

We have ensured that we recycle as much of our waste as possible.

ACHIEVED FOR 2021:

We have reviewed our current stationery suppliers to ensure we are using the most environmentally friendly option. We have now made the switch and all of our stationery and paper is an environmentally friendly alternative. From recycled paper and notepads to recycled highlighters

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • Changing our energy sources to be more sustainable. We have begun the process of switching all of our offices’ electricity to be produced from renewable sources and gas to be offset by our energy suppliers. This process is underway for some of our offices but we will ultimately extend this to all our offices in the next year.
  • We have pledged to be a Carbon Neutral organisation by the end of 2021. We have begun work to have our carbon footprint independently calculated by expert consultants for 2020/21 and to team up with an organisation that can help us offset our emissions in the best possible way.
  • Remove all single use plastics from our offices. We Intend to team up with a relevant organisation to certify us as single use plastic free.
