The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, 8 March, is #EmbraceEquity. We interviewed some women in our firm to find out what this theme means to them and how they are embracing equity this International Women’s Day.
This globally recognised day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The aim of International Women’s Day #EmbraceEquity campaign is to get the world talking about why ‘equal opportunities’ are no longer enough and to raise awareness of the difference between equal opportunities and equitable opportunities. Promoting equity-based solutions considers the diverse lived experiences of individuals and communities, and adapt according to these differences, therefore striving towards true inclusion and equality.
Rachel Emmerson, Partner, comments: “I’m delighted to celebrate International Women’s Day! Celebrating women’s achievements and raising awareness of issues such as gender bias, stereotypes, inequality and discrimination is key in forging a gender equal world. This year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme of #EmbracingEquity highlights how it is important to treat people fairly as well as treating them equally, by embracing the difference in personal situations and circumstances. This is something I’m personally very passionate about and will endeavour to nurture this culture of respect and understanding”.
