From Sunday 1 June to Monday 30 June, we took on our climate change themed pedometer challenge, a 706-mile journey from Paris to Glasgow resulting in an outstanding combined 51,988,190 steps!
The theme and trail followed a route from the capital of France – where the Paris Agreement on climate change was adopted in 2015 – to Glasgow – the host city of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) – in recognition of our commitment to raising awareness of climate change.
This years’ challenge was completed exclusively on foot with a total of 181 participants across 32 teams competing over the course of the challenge achieving a daily average of 1,732,940 steps. The challenge was concluded on June 30 with some incredible feats using the Big Team Challenge app.
This challenge is a part of our broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) programme, supporting the sustainable development goals ‘Good health and wellbeing (SDG 3)’ and ‘Climate action’ (SDG13). The participation in this challenge achieved more than just encouraging healthy habits, it also encouraged team building and benefitted the environment. 18 trees were planted with the partnership between the Big Team Challenge app and Ecologi, contributing towards our environmental goals.
Sarah Ediss, Accounts and Audit Partner and Trustee of the Kreston Reeves Foundation expressed: “This year’s challenge provided our teams a great way of having some friendly competition whilst inspiring everyone to be more active, which can clearly be seen by the extra distance travelled over the target set! A huge thanks to everyone within Kreston Reeves who took part, especially Scarlet Aspinall for all her hard work in the organisation of this event.
This was a fantastic chance for us to come together, harness our competitiveness and surpass the target goal. Everyone rose to the challenge, teams and individuals alike, battling their way up the leader board, and we couldn’t be prouder of the incredible participation this year.”
Our ESG commitment is at the heart of our firm’s purpose. We embrace our responsibility to drive lasting positive change and use business as a force for good. By prioritising what matters most to our people, we’ve built an accountable ESG programme. Aligned with this, we focus on four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Good health and wellbeing, Quality education, Reduced inequalities, and Climate action.
Congratulations to the winning team Last minute legends on completing the challenge and reaching 3,269,399 steps in total!
