Legal adviser to private clients – meet our expert Jenn Trussler
We have a long tradition of helping individuals and their families manage their personal financial and tax affairs.
What many perhaps don’t realise is that there is a growing team of solicitors at our firm working alongside their tax and accounting colleagues providing the legal support that is essential for those individuals.
Whether someone needs assistance with a will, lasting powers of attorney or managing probate following the death of a loved one, it makes sense for your lawyers and accountants to be under one roof, says Private Client solicitor Jenn Trussler.
Jenn Trussler joined us in the summer of 2023 having worked at two of the UK’s largest law firms – Mishcon de Reya and Irwin Mitchell. Based on the South Coast, she works with individuals across the South East helping them manage their estates and personal legal affairs.
“It is a hugely varied role,” says Jenn, “that might see me writing or updating wills and making sure they are tax efficient, preparing lasting powers of attorney or working with executors of an estate following the death of a loved one.”
The appeal of the role is that every client is unique with different financial and personal needs. It means that one day she might help an elderly couple with their will ensuring children or grandchildren receive an inheritance and the next day she could find herself working alongside a large family with considerable wealth following the sale of a business.
“The UK financial landscape is increasingly complex and changes regularly,” explains Jenn, “and many of our clients have an international footprint, meaning that we can be working alongside advisers in the US, Isle of Man, Jersey, Canada and Europe.”
Jenn points out that the tax landscape for individuals continues to change. The UK government in early 2024 announced changes to the long-established non-dom regime with many international families having to review their tax affairs, and a change of government in the coming months will inevitably see further changes.
When looking to further build her career, Jenn was instantly attracted to the idea of working as a solicitor inside an accountancy firm.
“There is a lot for clients and their advisers to understand and it is important that they take the very best advice,” Jenn says. “For many that means finding both a solicitor and an accountant. Having them under the same roof means a more holistic view for the client and access to the specialist advice they all too often need.”
Our dedicated legal team continues to grow and now includes 7 solicitors working across our firm’s offices in London, Sussex and Kent.
Jenn qualified as a solicitor four years ago and her passion for continued learning remains. She is part way through her Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) diploma, the ‘gold standard’ qualification for tax and legal advisers to individuals.
Living on the South Coast, just outside of Worthing in West Sussex, when not working, Jenn enjoys long walks on the beach with her husband and dog. She has, she says, found her passion for her career, clients, community and Sussex living.
