Our people make our firm. As part of a new series, we’ll be introducing you to individuals from across Kreston Reeves so you can get to know a bit more about the people delivering the wide range of accounting, business and wealth services we provide.
Our first people story is about Nasrin Rahman, an Audit Manager based in our London office, who joined the firm in April 2023.
Audit is a role Nasrin loves, but it wasn’t her first choice of career. Following her degree in Business and a Masters in IT, she realised she wanted a role which combined her love of order and numbers with getting out and meeting people and building great client relationships. Roles with several large accounting firms finally led Nasrin to an interview at Kreston Reeves.
We caught up with Nasrin to find out more about why she chose to move to Kreston Reeves and what she likes about the firm.
“I had already mentally decided on a role, with a firm where a friend worked, but when I came to Kreston Reeves for the interview and met the team it literally ‘blew my mind’. It was a top 30 firm with a small firm, family friendly vibe which is well-structured, work standardised to a high level and there is great support and training.
“The conversation just flowed easily in the interview, and it was clear very quickly that the people I met cared about the team. Everyone is very kind and friendly – they are happy and motivated. There is clear progression within the firm and a lot of the managers I’m working with have been supported with their career development, starting out as juniors in the firm”.
“Every day is different however for me it always starts with lots of coffee!
“A typical Monday would be for me to check in with the team each day and then the managers get together to discuss workloads, staffing allocation and client priorities. I am the “People Manager” for our new May 2023 student intake, and I check in to make sure they are ok with what they are doing as they are brand new to the firm. As I’m also new to the firm I’m still learning systems, introducing myself to clients and meeting partners and other fee earners, however, this has felt easy and enjoyable.
“I typically spend time reviewing files both for my own clients and, where I have capacity, for others in the audit team as I am still growing my portfolio. The audit managers all take time out each day to sit with the team and discuss what is happening with their clients and to provide on the job training which is something I like to see and enjoy doing myself.
“While performing on and off-site client audits, my focus is 100% on the client and client service team, this is always the most interesting part of the audit manager role as each audit and client is different and adds variety to the work”.
“I love the structure and being organised – because there is a lot of regulation and documentation in audit this is important! It’s interesting to look at the financial statements of a business and to build a relationship with the client, enabling us to provide advice that helps their business and really adds value. The clients and work at Kreston Reeves are varied, from owner managed businesses to listed groups – the Partners encourage and guide team members to get involved in different client work to get a broad experience which keeps the work interesting, which for me is important.
“I also love working with trainees and helping them to build a solid career base. For me, audit provides a good lifestyle and work satisfaction, but you have to be disciplined and organised”.
“It may sound a simple thing, but I like that we all sit together – including partners so everyone is very accessible. The office structure is open plan, a well thought out, invested in and modern space. There is also an amazing kitchen area with fresh fruit and breakfast, so you can grab some food and get on with your day.
“It feels like a safe space, an environment where you can ask any question, and no one will judge you, where everyone looks after each other.
“It’s also very sociable and the managers and partners all join in as well. There is a sports day coming up which I’ll be taking part in and I’m looking forward to meeting more colleagues from other offices”.
“It’s a top 30 firm with a completely different culture, it feels like a big, second family. I find I’m still smiling when I get home.
“I also find the level of interaction with senior members of the firm refreshing – while only early on in my time here I have felt guided, supported and equally challenged to be my best”.
“Yes definitely. You can just be yourself; you don’t need to conform. It’s very flexible. There is hybrid working, however, many of the team like coming into the office to learn and collaborate then I feel I can really switch off at the end of the day once the work is done.
“I was looking for a job that gives me balance and job satisfaction at the same time and I’m delighted that I’ve found that role”.
